The European Center for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) came to life in 2003 through the involvement of the founding donor, Jørgen Philip-Sørensen, CBE, who lives in England. In 2004, ECARF received a generous endowment contribution from the REWE trade group.
The foundation's mission is the improvement of the standard of knowledge and awareness of allergies in Europe. History teaches that the establishment of 'elite research centres' for specific disorders such as apoplexy or heart disease can achieve a significant improvement in public awareness and in physician care for these illnesses.
ECARF is pursuing this path as well in connection with the Allergy Centre Charité, an international elite centre for clinical work, research and knowledge dissemination in the area of allergology.
For this reason the foundation set up its headquarters at the Charité Berlin within the Clinic for Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology at the Mitte Campus. ECARF is administered by the Association of German Foundations. The role of patron for the Donors' Association is served by Germany's Federal President Prof. Dr. Horst Köhler.
More information about our ECARF, our patron, can be found here.
